In case you missed it, DC has dropped a new trailer for The Batman, which features a darker, spunkier take on the Dark Knight that no film has ever brought to light.
Unveiled during the DC Fandome event on Sunday, October 17, the two-and-a-half-minute clip shows Robert Pattinson’s emo-ish portrayal—complete with smudged eyeliner and all—of Gotham City’s vigilante detective and his alter ego, reclusive billionaire Bruce Wayne.
During the event, Robert described the character as one who is still learning the ropes of its superhero persona. “He’s a bit out of control. He hasn’t really defined what Batman is … he’s becoming this sort of odd creature,” the actor said.
Previously, director Matt Reeves described the story as “noir-driven” with Batman “investigating a particular case that takes us out into the world of Gotham.”
As The Verge notes, the film is set during the early days of Batman, where he will also be joined by allies, including Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred, and Colin Farrell as The Penguin.
The trailer also gives a glimpse of Paul Dano’s creeper take on the iconic Batman villain the Riddler, who has since been portrayed as a campier trickster.
It also comes a year after DC dropped the first trailer during its FanDome event last year, which was held after the film’s production was shut down in March that year because of the pandemic. Filming was also forced to pause again in September after Robert tested positive for COVID-19.
The Batman was initially scheduled to premiere in theaters on June 21, 2021, but is now slated for a much later release date on March 4, 2022.
