Nokia is not the only smartphone maker expanding into the tablet category in the near future. OPPO is also eyeing to roll out its first tablet in the first half of 2022.
OPPO China President Liu Bo announced it during a recent partner summit, where he also unveiled the company’s plans for new high-end products and eCommerce strategy.
The announcement came as no surprise for some tech aficionados, though. OPPO’s foray into the tablet segment has been making the rounds since a leakster named Digital Chat Station revealed that the company is developing a ColorOS for tablets.
The new software was said to be based on Android 12 and compatible with different devices, including foldables. The tablet is also rumored to compete with the Huawei MatePad Pro 12.6.
Apart from the new tablet, Bo said that OPPO will debut “multi-form smartphone products,” including foldables and similar devices.
As Gizmochina notes, the tech giant showcased a rollable concept smartphone called OPPO X 2021 last year. It even announced a tri-fold concept smartphone design in partnership with a Japanese design firm called ‘nendo’.
The exec did not mention the specific date of the launch, but it sure is a breakthrough worth looking forward to in the coming months.
