Put your detective skills to the test by joining Google’s live-action fact-check battle

The Google News Initiative (GNI) is holding a live-action University Verification Challenge for students across Asia Pacific this coming September 25.

Students from countries all across the region are invited to join a live-action fact-check battle for the chance to compete against top students across Asia.

The challenge is part of a year-long verification campaign targeted at educating students and raising awareness around how to spot misinformation.

Teams with two to three members will be challenged with intense quizzes. There will be three back-to-back challenges and each team will have 15 minutes to complete each challenge.

Winning teams from each bracket will enter the finals to be held during Google’s annual Trusted Media Summit. This is meant for more advanced detectives who have nailed the basics of fact-checking.

Participating students will get official certificates from digital media and information group DataLEADS, a GNI partner that trains and supports journalists in their fight against misinformation.

Students can register by September 23, 2021. The challenges will happen in seven languages including English, which will take place on September 25, 2021 at 4:30 PM.
