Microsoft Office 2021 is arriving on Oct. 5

Microsoft is releasing the latest version of its Office productivity software on October 5, alongside Windows 11.

This new version features a fresh visual upgrade aligned with Windows 11’s polished interface, 64-bit ARM support for the forthcoming OS, and performance improvements, including the “Line Focus” that will help you go through your document line by line, the XLOOUP feature that will enable you to easily locate words in an Excel worksheet, as well as the much-awaited dark mode.

While the software giant’s main focus remains on the cloud-based suite Microsoft 365, it said in a blog post last week that it is also making Office 2021 available for a one-time purchase for those who aren’t ready to move to the cloud.

As CNET notes, this offline version of Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, Excel, and OneNote will be available n two variants: one for commercial users—called the Office Long Term Servicing Channel (LTSC)—and the other for personal use.

LTSC, which Microsoft already released on Sept. 17, is designed for organizations, which cannot accept feature updates for years at a time, process control devices on the manufacturing floor that are not connected to the internet, and specialty systems that must stay locked in time and require a long-term servicing channel.

On the other hand, Microsoft Office 2021 for personal use will arrive on October 5. The company is still yet to disclose its price.

Both versions of Office will come in 32- and 64-bit versions and will be supported on Windows and Mac. Microsoft will support the new Office for five years instead of the seven it has typically provided for the software.
