Its heart-stopping, stomach-turning plot has no doubt got Squid Game topping the Netflix charts and social media conversations over the past week. And in case you still didn’t know, a Filipino actor took part in producing the masterpiece of a series.
Meet Christian Lagahit, better known as Player 276 on the set of Squid Game.
Christian has been working in South Korea as an English teacher for more than seven years already. He has also been playing bit roles in K-dramas and films for over five years now.
The 35-year-old actor shared his experiences filming Squid Game in a series of posts on Instagram.
“Player 276 reporting to Studio C,” he wrote on the caption of this post where he dons the show’s green uniform.
Christian also captured some selfies with fashion model Jung Ho Yeon, who made her acting debut in the series as a North Korean defector named Kang Sae Byeok.
Christian also took snaps of actor Heo Sung Tae, who the Filipino actor described as “one of the coolest and nicest Korean actors I met.” Sung Tae portrays the cruel gangster Jan Deok Seo in the show.
There is also this photo where Christian posed with Lee Yoo Mi aka Ji Yeong, a character who was sexually abused by her father and now struggling through life.
And, of course, Christian did not miss taking a shot with his “dear friend” and “recruiter” Tripathi Anupam, who played kind-hearted Pakistani Ali Abdul.
In an interview with CNN Philippines’ New Day on Sept. 24, Christian said that he actually auditioned for the role of Ali. “However, since I didn’t get that role, mid of last year, the production just called me and told me that I’ll be playing a special role for the drama series,” he told the outlet.
Christian appeared in the show’s fourth episode, where he helped some of the main cast in the deadly tug-of-war game.
Prior to Squid Game, the Pinoy actor made a cameo in other K-dramas, including 2016’s Don’t Dare to Dream and 2019’s Crash Landing on You. He also made the headlines earlier this year when he appeared as a Filipino waiter in the Korean film Space Sweepers.
Squid Game tells the story of 456 cash-strapped players invited to play twisted versions of childhood games for a cash prize of ₩45.6 billion or approximately P2 trillion. But inside the arena, the tempting prize awaits with deadly high stakes. All nine episodes of Squid Game are now streaming exclusively on Netflix.
