Matrix Resurrections gives fans a first look at the film on resurrected website

The Matrix Resurrections is already treating fans to a first look at the film ahead of its trailer’s official release today, Sept. 9, at 6 a.m. PT (9 p.m. Philippine time).

The surprise came yesterday, as Warner Bros. announced on social media that it has resurrected whatisthematrix.com, The Matrix franchise’s official website launched back in 1998.

Fans who would visit the interactive website will be presented with a choice between the series’ iconic red and blue pills. According to a report by GeekTyrant, the site “will render one of over 180,000 unique teaser videos possible based on the pill chosen and time of day.”

Generally speaking, if you pick the red pill, the screen will transition into the Matrix’s signature green scrolling code, and you would hear Yahya Abdul-Mateen II telling you that what’s happening to you the very minute you’re watching the clip “could be farther from the truth.” (Note: he would even tell the exact time you’re viewing the clip!)

As Polygon notes, Abdul-Mateen II’s narration and the franchise’s signature scrolling code are injected with snippets from the upcoming film, which includes the actor battling Keanu Reeves’ Neo.

On the other hand, the blue pill will take you on a gripping virtual ride with Neil Patrick Harris, explaining that the reason you’re here is “you’ve lost your capacity to discern real from fiction.” Like Abdul-Mateen II’s version of the teaser, Harris will also tell you the exact time you’re viewing the clip. The teaser also features a few scenes from the movie, including Neo struggling to determine if the Matrix real or not.

Here’s a glimpse of all that to get you heading to the website:

Warner Bros. has shown the full trailer of The Matrix Resurrections ahead of its public launch at the CinemaCon last August. Directed by Lana Wachowski, The Matrix Resurrections is the fourth installment of the franchise following 1999’s The Matrix and 2003’s The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolution.

Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, Jada Pinkett-Smith are reprising their roles as Neo, Trinity, and Niobe respectively. Joining them as newcomers are Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Christina Ricci, Jessica Henwick, and Jonathan Groff.

The Matrix Resurrections will premiere in theaters abroad on December 22, 2021.
