Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence play misunderstood astronomers trying to save the world in ‘Don’t Look Up’

The world has had so-called apocalyptic warnings aplenty, and thankfully, they turned out to be hoaxes. But what if one of them was real? Would you keep an eye out for it?

This is exactly what Hollywood hall of famers Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence had to untangle in Netflix’s upcoming disaster film Don’t Look Up.

The film follows the story of astronomy grad student Kate Dibiasky (Jennifer Lawrence) and her professor Dr. Randall Mindy (Leonardo DiCaprio), who both discover a Mount Everest-sized comet orbiting within the solar system. The problem — it’s on a direct collision course with Earth. The other problem? No one really seems to care.

With the help of Dr. Oglethorpe (Rob Morgan), Kate and Randall embark on a media tour that takes them from the office of an indifferent President Orlean (Meryl Streep) and her sycophantic son and Chief of Staff, Jason (Jonah Hill), to the airwaves of The Daily Rip, an upbeat morning show hosted by Brie (Cate Blanchett) and Jack (Tyler Perry).

With only six months until the comet makes impact, managing the 24-hour news cycle and gaining the attention of the social media-obsessed public before it’s too late proves shockingly comical. What will it take to get the world to just look up?

Don’t Look Up is directed and written by Adam McKay, whose past credits include AnchormanStep Brothers, and The Big Short.

The movie will premier in select theatres abroad on Dec. 10 then stream on Netflix on December 24. Catch the trailer below.
