Keanu Reeves is back at stopping bullets in Matrix Resurrections trailer

The trailer of The Matrix Resurrections has finally dropped, and fans of the sci-fi franchise better prepare for a plethora of explosive reality-warping action.

The clip, which Warner Bros. released on Thursday, takes off from the trilogy’s plot, where Neo (Keanu Reeves) and Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss) are stuck in a simulated reality, where they have to brutally fight for their lives against secret agents.

In the upcoming film, however, an older, long-haired Neo now lives in a fancy San Francisco apartment starkly different from Room 101, his small New York apartment in the trilogy. He meets Trinity for what seems to be the first time, although the two feel that they are previously connected with each other.

The film will also introduce Neil Patrick Harris as Neo’s therapist, who Neo’s alter ego, Thomas Anderson, runs to after undergoing a series of distressing events in the Matrix. A young Morpheus (portrayed by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) also returns to let Neo choose between a red and blue pill before saying it’s “time to fly.”

The remainder of the three-minute clip features Neo stopping bullets, redirecting rockets, doing bold rooftop dives, and escaping massive explosions with Trinity.

Directed by Lana Wachowski, The Matrix Resurrections is the fourth installment of the franchise following 1999’s The Matrix and 2003’s The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolution.

Hyping up the thrill along with Reeves, Moss, are returning stars Jada Pinkett Smith as Niobe, Lambert Wilson as The Merovingian, and Daniel Bernhardt as Agent Johnson. Joining Harris and Abdul-Mateen as newcomers are Andrew Caldwell, Priyanka Chopra, Jonathan Groff, Jessica Henwick, Ellen Hollman, Eréndira Ibarra, Toby Onwumere, Christina Ricci, Max Riemelt, and Brian J. Smith.

The Matrix Resurrections will premiere in theaters abroad and HBO Max on December 22, 2021.
