Are you renewing your driver’s license anytime soon? Well, there’s good and not-so-good news.
The good news: LTO has made good on its promise of the 10-year validity of driver’s licenses, and it’s now being implemented at the LTO main office in East Avenue, Quezon City. Satellite branches across NCR will follow suit on November 3.
The not-so-good news? You are only eligible if you do not have a traffic violation record. According to LTO, those who have traffic violation records can only apply for a 5-year renewal.
So, can you actually know ahead of time if you are actually qualified to apply for a 10-year renewal?
Yup. First, you must go to the LTMS (Land Transportation Management System) portal and register by entering your license number, expiration date, and the serial number found on the back of your license card. You’ll need to wait for an email from the LTO to be able to activate your account with a link.
Registering will also give you an LTO Client ID/number, which you will need when you go to LTO to renew your license.
Once you get the activation link, verify your email address and create your password. You may now log in to your account and update your data.
On the dashboard, click Violations to check your status.
All drivers seeking to renew their license will now be required to acquire a certification from the Comprehensive Driver’s Education (CDE). You need to take a CDE Online Validation Exam, a 25-point questionnaire, also available on the LTMS portal. The passing score is 50% or at least 13 correct answers out of 25 questions. You can retake the test in case you fail.
There will also be a seminar, which runs for a maximum of five hours. Applicants can attend it physically at driver’s education centers or at accredited driving schools (for a fee), or online via the LTMS portal.
The CDE materials are available on LTMS Portal, at LTO offices, or at LTO-accredited driving schools.
